Petit Verdot 2019
R200.00
Cerise-edged, black vermillion. Intense cassis and ripe plum aromas, blackberry and bilberry hints. Very satisfying. Tannic but ripe so both creamy and savoury on the palate, fruit and freshness finely balanced. Some nuance on the finish.
This wine shows spice, perfumed oak, violets and wild berry on the nose. The palate is an array of intense concentrated anise, pepper and cardamon along with black and red fruits, backed up by the characteristic Kleinhoekkloof perfume. Focused and balanced with supple tannins and a chalky finish.
Due to the uniquely cold climate on the farm, this wine is crystal clear and bright which at first shows rich granadilla and cape gooseberries, however once settled in the bottle, these flavours show more fresh herbs and fynbos with a hint of green figs.
The nose is fresh plums and black cherries with graphite (pencil lead), oak spice and hints of dried herbs. The palate gives a soft and supple entry with dense black fruit concentration on mid-palate. Subtle spicy flavours, great acid which lends freshness and length. Some cacao on the finish.
Refreshingly different, the wine gives the impression of having some sweetness while actually being dry. Excellent with bacon and eggs, as well as all spicy foods. The ‘dark horse’ of our cellar, this wine always surprises new consumers.
